In hot weather the thought is constantly spinning in your brain: “P-and-and-it! ..
Well, if there is a bottle with life-giving moisture on hand. Not bad, if somewhere near selling bottled water, even at exorbitant prices. Thirst kills the desire to save.
But still, why is bottled water so expensive? Do they cheat us? Maybe it is better to fill the bottle at home from the tap and carry?
DRINK OR NOT DRINK?
These questions are natural, and especially in summer, when the consumption of bottled water increases greatly. According to statistics, people in the world drink bottled water more and more, and the annual increase in consumption is on average 10%. Marketers believe that this trend will only increase. On the other hand, we constantly hear that we have almost free clean tap water available. But if so, then why do people stubbornly prefer bottled water?
There is an opinion that the main motive for buying such water is the myth that it is supposedly cleaner, more environmentally friendly and more beneficial than tap water. It is these messages that are actively introducing advertising into our consciousness. Of course it matters. But it seems to us that the question is more complicated.
First, the tap water in the kitchen has decent quality far from everywhere in Russia. And secondly, even if its quality is excellent, its taste is nevertheless imperfect. On it you can cook a variety of dishes and drinks that have their own taste. But just not everyone likes to drink such water, so they buy bottled water.
Do manufacturers cheat us? Definitely, they do it very often. Moreover, the manipulation of our mind and wallet may be different. For example, instead of mineral or purified bottled water they often sell tap water. Proving this is not at all easy, the analyzes are expensive and complicated. It is also difficult to legally prove the fact of falsification even with obvious “discoveries” in the analyzes, so it is almost impossible for an ordinary consumer to do this. But there is a way out.
Focus on taste: if the taste of water is so-so or about the same as that of a tap drink, never buy it again.
There are legal ways to produce water, which many do not seem to be very correct. So, one of the most popular bottled water, sold everywhere, is made from additionally purified and recycled tap water.
The manufacturer appreciates itself and its brand so that it sells quite expensive. It is honestly written on the bottle that water is obtained from the centralized water supply system. But, firstly, not everyone knows that this water supply system is also in our home – in the kitchen, bathroom, toilet. And secondly, not everyone reads that the labels are written in small print.
In addition, there are periodic scandals with water quality associated with problems in production. Often this happens due to the processing of water – cleaning and saturation with salts and minerals. Together with them, it can acquire and harmful impurities.
It is enough to recall the world scandal in England a few years ago, when half a million bottles of Dasani water were recalled there. It found high concentrations of bromates – carcinogenic substances formed in the process of disinfecting water using ozone. Despite the fact that their content is controlled, they slipped.
And there are many similar scandals. So, in mid-April, a leading US consumer magazine, Consumer Reports, reported that arsenic was found in water in six well-known brands in quantities exceeding the allowable level. In Russia, these brands of water do not sell, but there are also abuses.
Our Roskontrol, checking bottled water, found in it a lot of flaws. For example, the number of microbes could be several times higher than the norm, nitrates and nitrites were found in excess, they also indicate water pollution (they should not be in artesian water obtained from great depths). Some waters were very poor in minerals, including useful, often this was the result of a very deep purification, as a result of which the water became almost distilled.
For example, there were waters with very low contents of important for us calcium and magnesium (with water we should receive up to 20% of their daily allowance). Fluorine, so necessary for the strength of bone tissue and the prevention of caries, was also often in obvious disadvantage.
RULES FOR WATER BUYER
How to be in such a difficult situation to consumers? Here you can follow the following rules:
– if you have good quality tap water in your region and you like its taste, there is no great need to buy bottled water;
– If tap water is not suitable, buy bottled. The optimal choice is mineral table water (it has low mineralization, see “This is important”). In the extreme case – some medical table mineral waters containing no more than 2 g of salts and minerals in 1 liter;
– mineral water is usually more expensive than drinking water, and if you cannot afford it, buy drinking water (how they differ from mineral water, see “Our Help”), choosing the ones that you like the best;
– it is better to drink water not only of any one brand. Choose 3-4 brand different bottled waters that you like to taste, and consume them in any order. Constant and long adherence to only one brand can negatively affect the balance of trace elements in the body;
– water without gas is always preferable to sparkling. Not only that, during carbonation, water may be contaminated with harmful impurities, but this is not beneficial for the body, and carbonation levels the taste of water, which may mask not very tasty water;
– water in a glass bottle is always better than in a plastic one. But in practice drinking water is rarely sold in glass and is very expensive. In any case, it will be more beneficial to start a glass bottle in order to pour plastic water into it and carry it with you in the heat.
HOW MUCH WATER IS IT POSSIBLE AND NECESSARY TO DRINK DAILY?
It is necessary to understand that we receive water explicitly and hidden. Explicit sources are water itself, as well as all beverages (tea, coffee, compotes, jellies, juices, soda, etc.) and first courses. Hidden water is most found in fruits and vegetables, a lot in meat. There is it in other products.
So, a person weighing about 70-80 kg of obvious water should drink 2-3 liters daily. If you get most of it just in the form of water, that's great. The less sugary drinks, soda and even juices in your diet, the better – there is a lot of sugar in all this.
In the heat, you can drink more water, because its loss with sweat and breathing is higher. Having lost even 2% of water, we begin to feel, experiencing rapid fatigue and fatigue. In addition, with a lack of water, blood becomes less fluid, and this increases the risk of blood clots and thromboembolism.
Another problem is that the kidneys remove less water, the urine becomes more concentrated. This greatly increases the risk of kidney and bladder stones.
