Tegnell also explained Sweden’s approach to the coronavirus pandemic, where today there are no strict quarantine restrictions and only schools are closed.
He noted that the absence of restrictions does not mean that life in Sweden continues, as before – the streets of Stockholm are empty, and traffic is 10 times less than usual.
At the same time, the official admitted that Sweden had failed in caring for the elderly, and most of the deaths from COVID-19 were among residents of nursing homes.
In Sweden, more than a thousand people died from coronavirus, and more than 26 thousand cases of coronavirus infection were confirmed in the country as a whole.
I do not think this virus will ever disappear. Some countries seem to be pursuing policies based on the assumption that if they cure all cases in the country, they will forever get rid of the virus. I do not think so,
– said Tegnell.
He also added that COVID-19 could cause annual epidemics in the future, like seasonal flu.
By the way, this is not the first assumption regarding the possible seasonal status of COVID-19. Scientists predict a new wave of the epidemic in the fall.
