American scientists have concluded that the use of sugar leads to a decrease in the mental abilities of a person, which in the future can lead to the degradation of the human population.
Molecular nutritionist Rimma Moisenko supports American colleagues. According to her, sugar is a bomb that destroys humanity.
The fact that sugar can adversely affect health has been known since the middle of the last century. However, many attacks on sugar are controversial. There is even a version that the sugar discredit campaign, which unfolded in the 90s of the 20th century, was initiated by sugar substitute companies.
So, the version that eating sugar leads to addiction is still not fully proven: the tendency to eat sugar can be genetically determined. Some love sweets, others do not.
Sugar has been blamed and is blamed for leading to diseases of the cardiovascular system, gout, diabetes, osteoporosis, caries, a decrease in blood calcium and so on.
Now new charges. According to American scientists, eating sweets makes children … fools. Sweet tooth study poorly, excellent students, on the contrary, do not like sugar. As a result, sweet lovers grow up illiterate; they cannot get a good education and make a successful career. Moreover, laziness and inability to learn new information remain with the sweet tooth even after they enter adulthood.
Syndrome "sugar stupidity" covers about 10% of children in the United States, American scientists calculated. They explain the effects of sugar on the brain by the fact that excess sugar leads to a deficiency of dopamine D 2 receptors in the brain and, as a result, to impaired signaling. Similar disorders are observed in drug addicts, as well as in people who are overweight.
Doctors of medicine Richard J. Johnson and Mark S. Gold also claim on the basis of studies that the pathology of brain activity, which is the result of excessive sugar intake, is also expressed by excessive manifestation of impulsivity, anxiety, and mood disorder.
Children who ate a lot of sugar in childhood have a higher chance of becoming drug addicts and criminals in adulthood. Thus, 4% of Americans have a tendency to use drugs, and 2% have a tendency to antisocial behavior. According to the researchers, for sweet tooth, these indicators are 16% and 18%, respectively. And it is almost impossible to recover from sugar addiction.
Interestingly, the experimental groups that were given various substitutes for sugar instead had almost the same changes in the brain as those who ate real sugar.
If you wish, you can associate an increase in sugar consumption with an increase in mental disorders – over the past 100 years, sugar consumption has increased several times.
Russian scientists are very skeptical about the research of their Western colleagues. They note that the conclusions made during various experiments in the West are often refuted by subsequent studies.
Thus, it cannot be reliably argued that sugar adversely affects human brain activity. Moreover, in the last century, the positive effect of glucose on brain function was proved.
Yevgeny Oreshkin, assistant scientific adviser to the Federal Research Center for Food Systems of the Russian Academy of Sciences, recalls that “sugar containing essential glucose for the body is vital.
The founder of the National Research Center “Healthy Nutrition” Oleg Medvedev advises “to refrain from fanaticism” and not make hasty conclusions: “This does not mean that we should reduce the consumption of glucose-containing sugars. We have the necessary share of sweets, which we must give to the body for normal life. ”
