With the onset of the summer season, physicians traditionally register a significant increase in the number of strokes.
Growth is about 10-12%. The statistics is replenished due to the so-called weekend strokes.
Doctors call this term vascular disasters, which occur due to a sudden change in the rhythm of life. Instead of rest and recuperating at the weekend, people rush to their six hundred square meters in order to just change the type of activity.
Every year about 15 million people suffer a stroke in the world – these are the data of the World Health Organization. The number of strokes is increasing every year. The main reason is the aging of the planet’s population. The fastest growing population in recent years, as noted by the chief geriatrician of the Russian Ministry of Health, Olga Tkacheva, has become people over 80 years old.
Still, a stroke can affect both an elderly and a young person, especially if you lead an unhealthy lifestyle and do not follow the recommendations of doctors.
All strokes are divided into ischemic (such doctors call brain infarctions – most of them, about 80%) and hemorrhagic, which occur less frequently, but have more serious and sad consequences – often lead to deaths (60-70% in the first 5-7 days) or end in severe forms of disability.
Hemorrhagic strokes develop on level ground when a person is engaged in some kind of active activity, and begin with a sharp headache, nausea, vomiting, and strong arousal.
Arterial hypertension, which affects more than half of the adult population of our country, high levels of "bad" cholesterol in the blood, chronic stress, overweight, lead to strokes.
Particularly high (several times higher) is the risk of stroke in patients with atrial fibrillation (atrial fibrillation), which is considered to be the most common type of heart rhythm disorder. This type of arrhythmia causes from 10 to 24% of all cases of ischemic stroke.
Another cause of strokes is noncompliance with work and rest. The last factor is decisive in the development of stroke weekend. Many Russians do not think of themselves without gardens, and therefore consider that the earth should not disappear, and sow the beds in full, providing themselves with physical labor on weekends for the whole warm season.
The garden requires watering, weeding, fertilization. Often, a dacha turns from a source of joy into a source of endless health problems, ranging from diseases of the joints to vascular catastrophes.
There is another serious problem. Many people, especially the elderly, are moving to the cottages to live. But not everyone calculates the need for drugs for this period, and therefore do not take with them a sufficient number of drugs.
In addition, older people (and the uninhabited too) often forget about the pill regimen prescribed by the doctor, believing that if you skip it once or twice, then nothing bad will happen. It is precisely such carelessness that most often results in tragedy. After all, the body gets used to a certain concentration of the drug in the blood, for example, from high blood pressure, and if the necessary substance does not flow, then the pressure soars sharply.
The problem is also that most summer residents change their mode of existence rarely. For example, for six months, people do not pay enough attention to physical activity, watch television on the sofa in the evenings, often don’t even have time for a walk, and then they don’t want to plow non-stop.
Doctors warn: do not overdo it, it can end badly! Try to relax more in the country, your agrarian feats are not needed by anyone.
How to reduce the risk of stroke to the minimum?
Unfortunately, magic pills do not exist, but a lot depends on the lifestyle you lead. Give up bad habits. Try to keep your weight normal. Remember that moderate physical activity is the key to the overall health of the body. And, of course, eat wisely.
The Mediterranean diet based on plenty of fresh vegetables, sea fish and seafood, olive oil, a minimum of meat and so on is recognized as the healthiest and most valuable in terms of preventing vascular accidents in the world. The risk of stroke and heart attack significantly increases the diet with a large number of products of industrial processing, salty, spicy, sweet.
It is also important to maintain normal blood pressure numbers, and it should be 120 by 80 at any age. If you have hypertension, it is necessary that the doctor selects the right medication for you, and you take it regularly. Treatment of hypertension – life!
The level of cholesterol should also be monitored, and today there are many effective drugs. If you have a history of atrial fibrillation, you will also need to regularly take antithrombotic drugs – anticoagulants.
In general, if you follow all the listed tips, you can reduce the risk of stroke by 80%.
In addition, watch your well-being. If a head ache, dizziness began, a feeling of exhaustion appeared – stop working. If the pain persists, call an ambulance.
