Doctors: diamond prostheses destroy teeth
About SPA procedures for the body, face and even hair are more or less heard, but what is SPA in dentistry?
Does such a service really exist and is there any benefit from it? Marina Kolesnichenko, the dentist, the chief physician of Beauty Line, tells how dental SPA procedures go and why you shouldn’t refuse them.
WHAT ARE SPA SPA PROCEDURES?
SPA procedures in dentistry include professional teeth cleaning, polishing and remineralization.
Currently, cleaning the teeth at the doctor’s office has changed a lot, especially when compared with the procedure performed by dentists and parodontologists 10-15 years ago.
Previously, the doctor cleaned the teeth with brushes, but it was not so effective, because the brushes could not penetrate hard-to-reach places even in the hands of the dentist. Dental stones were removed using curettes — sharp instruments that could damage the surface of the teeth and gums. It is painful and unpleasant.
But thanks to modern methods of cleaning teeth – the Air-Flow apparatus, remineralization systems (applying fluorinating compositions) and polishing – professional SPA procedures for teeth have become much more pleasant, comfortable and effective.
WHY SPA SPA PROCEDURES ARE SO USEFUL?
It is recommended to hold them every six months, because independent daily cleaning of the house does not ensure the complete elimination of the raid. In the hard-to-reach places between the teeth remain its particles, which are the source of bacteria reproduction.
The complex of SPA procedures reduces by 90% the risk of the formation of new carious cavities, improves the condition of the teeth, gums and the entire oral cavity, reduces the level of its bacterial contamination.
If the patient undergoes a SPA procedure every six months, then he achieves an improvement in the oral cavity, improves its microbiocenosis, and since the oral cavity is the "entrance gate" into the body, then with the help of professional cleaning, the access of infections to the gastrointestinal tract and the whole organism is blocked.
SPA procedures are also prevention of periodontal diseases, because if you do not remove the tartar every six months, then it begins to destroy the gum tissue and the periodontal ligaments that hold the teeth in the bone tissue. Due to the pressure of the stones and the inflammatory process in the area of the gums, periodontitis or periodontal disease will begin, and with time the teeth will loosen and fall out.
HOW ARE THE SPA TREATMENTS IN THE ORAL CAVITY?
SPA procedures are a guarantee of oral health. They include several stages.
The first is to clean the Air-Flow unit, which by means of a pressurized flow of air, water and abrasive powder cleans all surfaces of the teeth by 360 degrees.
If a patient is found to have tartar, then the vector piezoelectric system is additionally used. Its tip creates an ultrasonic wave that works on the border of media separation – the surface of the tooth and the stone. As a result, the stone itself is separated from the tooth, without harm to the enamel or gums. This unit also polishes the surface of the teeth and their roots in order to further reduce the formation of tartar.
The second stage is polishing with special brushes with polishing paste to obtain a smooth tooth surface. The smoother the surface, the less plaque is formed.
The third and final stage is to cover the teeth with preparations to strengthen the enamel. If earlier it was just fluoride varnish, which pinched the gums, smelled not very pleasantly and created a yellowish film on the teeth, now these are special fluorinating and calcining mousses. They have a light texture, pleasant smell and taste. They are applied for 2-3 minutes, and after that the patient can go home, on business, etc.
SPA procedures are completely painless. If there is inflammation of the gums or they are hypersensitive, then before cleaning the doctor applies special gels on them, which have an anesthetic (“freezing”) effect. Immediately after the procedure, you can lead a normal life without restricting yourself to drinking or eating.
IS THERE A HOME SPA TREATMENT FOR TEETH?
Gum massage and the use of an irrigator are useful procedures, but they are often carried out not by a dentist, because their one-time carrying out will not give special effect.
The patient can do the massage and irrigation independently, using a home irrigator (a device that supplies a directed stream of water to the teeth and gums) and an electric brush with a gum massage function. Modern models have a special mode for massage gums and tongue.
It is better for the patient to do this at home, because any massage should include a series of procedures to achieve the result. This also applies to irrigation – in fact, water massage. They improve blood circulation in the gums, help get rid of plaque in the interdental spaces, and remove small pieces of food. Manipulations need to be carried out repeatedly, and in this case, these home SPA procedures will help to preserve the effect obtained from professional cleaning, polishing and remineralization.
