Of course, you can convince yourself that sweets once a year will not harm, and in general "how many holidays are there." However, we will be frank: many people do not comply with restrictions on sugar consumption and not on holidays. And in December, already from St. Nicholas Day, the real sugar bombardment begins.
It is important to remember that excessive sugar intake over time contributes to weight gain and increases the risk of obesity, causes tooth problems and increases the risks of cardiovascular disease, diabetes and certain types of cancer.
Intestinal microflora suffers significantly, and if you replace sweets with full meals, then the body may experience a lack of vitamins, minerals and nutrients.

The harm of sweets
Ulyana Suprun presented the results of the first nationwide study on the nutrition of Ukrainians, in particular children.
According to him, Ukrainian children consume too much sweet. Young children (1-3 years old) – 47 grams per day, preschoolers (4-6 years old) – 56 grams per day, adolescents (7-14 years old) – 67 grams per day.
However, the WHO’s free sugar intake for adults is 25 grams per day, up to a maximum of 50 grams per day.
Free sugar – that sugar that is added to food products, and also naturally found in honey, fruit juices, smoothies.
And now add to this list store sweets containing not only sugar, but also various sweeteners, salts, preservatives. Often they also have trans fats that increase the risks of cancer and cardiovascular disease.
A diet high in trans fats increases the risk of cardiovascular disease by 21%, and mortality by 28%. In particular, it affects the body’s immune responses, which can lead to inflammation,
– notes Ulyana Suprun.
WHO has announced the global REPLACE campaign, which implies a complete rejection of trans fats until 2023.
In the meantime, in Ukraine it is allowed to use trans fats in food products, it is worth taking care of yourself and your children yourself. Therefore, always pay attention to the labels of sweets, as well as cookies.
If you see the words "hydrogenated vegetable fats" – leave such sweets on the shelf.

How much sugar is allowed in the diet of children
The British National Health Service recommends: for children 4-6 years old – up to 19 grams per day; for children 7-10 years old – up to 24 grams per day; children over 11 years old and adults – up to 30 grams per day; for children under 4 years of age, sweetened foods and drinks should be avoided.
Sweets that are prepared without white sugar (in particular with the addition of honey, agave syrup, brown sugar) are considered a healthy alternative. However, their consumption also needs to be limited.
The association "candy = holiday" was invented by adults. However, for children the main concern that can be shown in other ways!

Better spend your free time together: visit the exhibition, park, play at home – there are many options.
And if you still want to give your child sweets, give preference to fruits, dried fruits, pastille.
A good alternative would be co-cooking homemade sweets.
Thus, you will be sure of the quality of the products from which you prepare dishes, and for children it will be not just candy or a piece of cake, but time spent with parents.
