People with hypertension and diabetes are at higher risk of experiencing severe, and sometimes fatal, symptoms of coronavirus, not so much from their illness, but because of the drugs they have to take, the authoritative medical journal Lancet writes about this.

We are talking about drugs from the class of ACE inhibitors and angiotensin receptor blockers.
Why do drugs for pressure and diabetes worsen coronavirus?
They change the shape of human cells in such a way that it is easier for a coronavirus to infect them. As a result, the disease is more severe.
In England alone, last year 65 million prescriptions for these drugs were issued. They are designed to treat diabetes or high blood pressure, and hundreds of millions of people worldwide suffer from these disorders.
A new study showed how coronavirus binds to human cells and infects them. It was observational and is the basis for future research. Scientists reported the existence of a connection and put forward possible explanations.
But this is not a reason to refuse drugs, if you do not take them, then the risk of dying from high blood pressure or diabetes is several times higher than coronavirus.
