The American doctors, described by New Scientist, have introduced the human body into suspended animation. Such a procedure will help to get more time for operations and repair of dangerous injuries or damage.

The term "suspended animation" can often be heard in science fiction films and books when a person is sent on a long space journey. However, what used to be science fiction is now a reality – scientists have successfully applied the suspended animation technique to humans.
Anabiosis – what is it? Anabiosis is a temporary state of an organism in which life processes are either stopped altogether or so slow that external manifestations of vital activity become invisible.
Technique suspended animation
Officially, this technique is called "urgent preservation and resuscitation." It is used for people who have received stab-cut or gunshot wounds, critical conditions due to blood loss and cardiac arrest.
In such cases, doctors have a few minutes to make decisions, because the chance of survival is 5%.
The technique consists in reducing the patient's body temperature to 10-15 degrees Celsius and replacing the blood with a special composition, while the activity of the brain almost stops.
After that, the body is disconnected from the cooling system and sent to the operating table. A person is actually in a state of clinical death.
Thanks to suspended animation, doctors have more time to save a person’s life.
What is suspended animation for?
Thanks to suspended animation, doctors have more than 2 hours to fix injuries. Then the body is resuscitated.
At normal body temperature, cells need a constant supply of oxygen to generate energy.
Lowering the temperature of the body and brain slows down or completely stops the chemical reactions in the cells, and the need for oxygen decreases several times.
At a time when the brain is able to live without oxygen for only 5 minutes without damage, suspended animation allows you to stretch this time up to 2 hours before the brain cells begin to die and irreversible processes are activated in the body.
Doctors note that not all patients are able to survive this procedure and it can only be used if absolutely necessary.
