The study of the University of California – San Francisco, was attended by almost 4,000 participants, they were divided into 3 groups: cyclists, runners and swimmers. These were not professional athletes, but simply people who regularly play sports.
The groups were homogeneous in age, body mass index and concomitant diseases. All men were interviewed for urination problems, potency and signs of chronic prostatitis.
Bicycle is good for men's health.
It turned out that cyclists actually have less potency problems than people involved in another sport. Urinary problems or chronic prostatitis are no more common for cyclists than for other men.
But bicycle lovers may experience perineal numbness (the risk is 10.6 times higher) and the risk of urethral strictures (narrowing of the lumen of the urethra) 2.5 times more often due to injuries during a fall.
Perineum numbness can be reduced if you stand on the pedals for more than 20% of the trip time and raise the steering wheel higher than the saddle, or at least put the handlebars in the level with the seat level.
Conclusion: bicycles are not only not harmful, but may even be beneficial for men's health.
