Recently, there has been active talk that mosquitoes – carriers of very dangerous and even deadly viruses, have occupied the south of Russia.
Experts are sure: panic is not worth it – nothing supernatural happens, but you need to monitor the situation.
Rumors that the Black Sea coast of the Kuban and Crimea this summer were literally attacked by mosquitoes, some of which are carriers of the terrible viruses of dengue, Chikungunya, Zika and yellow fever, scared the Russians.
According to a number of experts, deadly tropical diseases threaten southern Russia with almost an epidemic.
Indeed, mosquitoes from Egypt and Southeast Asia migrate due to climate change. This year, due to the warm winter and rainy July, the conditions for blood-sucking mosquitoes were ideal, but nothing terrible happened.
As noted in the Office of Rospotrebnadzor for the Krasnodar Territory, new species of insects that carry deadly viruses, and outbreaks of diseases due to them have not been recorded.
“Nothing has changed with us,” they reported to the press service of the regional department. – We have a lot of mosquitoes that transmit vector-borne infections, but they lived and live with us all the time. And this year is no exception – no outbreaks, no viruses, except for isolated cases of West Nile fever and yellow fever, which are noted here every year.
The Rospotrebnadzor also reminded that one can get to the sea from countries where there is a serious situation with Zika fever by sea, so the ports check the temperature and well-being of sailors and passengers arriving from these states, their documents and certificates of pest control measures. And so that mosquitoes – carriers of dangerous diseases do not spread, they are destroyed by treating the territory. In general, the situation is constantly monitored.
But rumors excite the minds of Russians. People have already talked about a whole epidemic of deadly fevers due to mosquitoes and are afraid that they themselves are about to become victims of insidious insects. Professor Vadim Maryinsky, professor of the Department of Hydrobiology of the Biological Faculty of Moscow State University, hastened the Russians:
– Tropical mosquitoes usually prefer to live in the southern regions, but recently began to appear more often in more northern latitudes. This in itself is not something terrible: after all, the appearance of these insects does not entail the obligatory appearance of the aforementioned diseases. That is, the so-called Russian tropical mosquito is not required to have a set of infection spread in the southern latitudes. It’s not worth raising a panic about this, but, of course, you need to monitor and monitor the situation.
The expert emphasized that Russia as a whole was very lucky with the climate. Due to the relatively cool weather, the horrors that exist in tropical latitudes do not occur in the country.
I’m not ready to see a terrible threat in the mosquitoes that have arrived and the head of the interferon department and the laboratory of interferonogenesis of the Scientific Research Institute of Epidemiology and Microbiology N.F. Gamalei Felix Ershov. A virologist says it’s not news to anyone that mosquitoes carry the infection.
“For Russia, the worst mosquito encephalitis is yellow fever, and you can protect yourself from it, or rather mosquito carriers, using ordinary insecticides in the form of sprays and aerosols,” the scientist says and recalls that where mosquito danger exists, medical services ready to fight them have long existed.
It is known that in the Krasnodar Territory in order to prevent Zika fever and other vector-borne infections transmitted by mosquitoes, the Black Sea coast is regularly treated for mosquitoes.
But it’s too early to completely relax. Scientists remind that warming is an inevitable process, the consequences of which will have to be adapted to humans as a biological species, and each state will have to develop its own set of measures to combat biological threats.
