Experts argue that there is a link between the strength of the outbreak of coronavirus even at the country level. One of the criteria is how widely and for a long time BCG vaccinations have been vaccinated there. This is written in the announcement of the study on medRxiv.

What is BCG?
The abbreviation BCG is derived from the French name for the bacillus Calmette-Guerin, which is included in the drug: Bacillus Calmette-Guérin, BCG. It stimulates immunity from tuberculosis in people, but does not threaten health.
Why vaccinate. BCG protects against severe forms of the disease, such as tuberculous meningitis. Immunity after BCG occurs for at least six to seven years. Therefore, children at six years old are given a Mantoux test and the results assess the feasibility of re-vaccinating BCG.
How to vaccinate. The child is vaccinated against tuberculosis in the hospital. In the absence of contraindications, this occurs within five days from the date of birth. The vaccine is administered in the left shoulder. A scar is formed at the injection site, which remains in a person for life.

BCG against coronavirus COVID-19
Epidemiologists believe that where the vaccine began to be used weakly or later (Italy, the Netherlands, USA), the coronavirus spread quickly and most of all fatal cases.
Now it is believed that the spread rate and the number of deaths in the country depend on how strong the economy is, health care is developed, cultural standards and efforts to mitigate the consequences.
But in some countries (Italy, USA, Belgium, Netherlands, Iran), this correlation does not work. The authors of the analysis believe that these countries are united by the absence of a BCG vaccinated population or the recent start of such vaccination.
Having calculated the ratio of infections (and deaths from COVID-19) to the population of these countries, the researchers saw that in these countries the pandemic is spreading four times faster and stronger than in others.
Conversely, in relatively poor countries with total and long-standing BCG vaccination (such as Brazil), an unusually low mortality rate from coronavirus is observed.
Experts also drew attention to China, where BCG has been done since the 1950s, but in 1966-1976 they stopped vaccinating people. This, according to the authors of the study, led to the emergence of a "weak layer" of the population, which suffered more than others.

"Countries in which the late launch of the universal BCG policy (Iran, 1984) has a high mortality rate from COVID-19, which resonates with the idea that BCG protects vaccinated elderly people," the report writes.
We emphasize that this is only a theory that requires confirmation, but the regularity that the authors write about is indeed traceable. Therefore, continue the routine vaccination of yourself and your children, this can save a life in the most unexpected situations.
