On August 20, the first children's hospice "Emerald City" opens in the Belgorod Region.
Now there are about 500 children in the region in need of palliative care. In addition to medicines and specialized equipment, they need care and psychological support.
This task was previously performed by the children's mobile palliative service, created by the BROO "Svyatoe Belogorye against childhood cancer" in 2016. Now the Center for Palliative Care for Children "Emerald City" will join it.
The ideological inspirer of the construction of the hospice was Evgenia Vladimirovna Kondratyuk, the chairman of the "Holy Belogorie Against Children's Cancer" foundation.
– Unfortunately, society is not just afraid of the word hospice – it rejects it. And our task is to convey to the maximum number of people that the hospice is not just a place to live. This is home. This is a place where in every day of a terminally ill child there will be as much life as he needs to be completely happy, – says the head of the charitable organization Evgenia Kondratyuk. Instead of the usual chambers, there are rooms, each of which is called a house. On the first and second floors there are two double houses, the rest are single and one house of enhanced supervision for three children without parents. There are 14 houses in total, in which 18 children can stay at the same time. There is a relaxation room for parents, as well as a swimming pool and a playroom, where residents of the houses will gather together for master classes and evening events.
– In the "Emerald City" there are two formats of assistance: when parents are directly with their children all the time, while mom or dad can be taught special care. And the second format is when a parent can leave the child under the supervision of the Center staff by completing the necessary documents. Parents and siblings – healthy brothers and sisters – also have the opportunity to attend classes with a psychologist and use massage services. All actions are aimed at ensuring that mothers and fathers can relax, ”explains Inna Cherkasova, head physician of the Emerald City Center for Palliative Care for Children.
Reference The Center for Palliative Care for Children is located in the village of Korotkoy, Korochansky District, Belgorod Region. This building used to belong to a school. It was closed several years ago. But the building was not empty for long. In 2018, construction began on the Emerald City hospice.
The first donations were collected by caring residents of the region as part of the # 53nhospice campaign. Employees of the Sacred Belogorie Against Childhood Cancer charitable organization calculated that if every adult working resident of the region donates 53 rubles for the construction, these funds will be enough to open a Palliative Care Center. The campaign was launched on social networks. She was supported by thousands of residents of the region.
Metropolitan John of Belgorod and Starooskolsk and Russian footballer Sergei Ryzhikov also joined the fundraiser. The main benefactor, who donated about 290 million rubles, was Alexander Viktorovich Orlov.
